Supercapacitor porous carbon first international standard released

In June 2023, under the auspices of Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as "Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry"), Ningbo Zhongche New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Institute of Standards and Technology and National Nanoscience Center jointly participated in the formulation of international standards -- IEC/TS 62565-5-1:2023 Nanomanufacturing-Product specifications - Part 5-1: Nanoporous activated carbon - Blank detail specification: electrochemical capacitors (Porous Carbon for Electrochemical Capacitors ("Capacitor Carbon")-Blank Detail Specification), as approved by the Technical Committee on Nano-Electrotechnical Products and Systems of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC/TC 113). The standard is formulated by the technical team of the 709 group of the Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Standards lead high-quality development

This is the first international blank detailed specification for materials in the field of capacitive carbon, * combing the influence factors of materials on device performance, including 23 key control characteristics of chemistry, physics, structure and electrochemistry of capacitive carbon. Among them, the key control characteristics of electrochemistry include some short-term performance indexes such as specific capacity and rate performance, as well as long-term stability and temperature tolerance indexes that downstream users are more concerned about. The standard describes the test methods of these 23 key control characteristics in detail, and classifies the standardization maturity of these test methods by consulting international and domestic standards.

By presiding over the formulation of the standard, the technical team can, on the one hand, * sort out and summarize the potential factors of materials affecting the performance of devices, and refine the technology from within. On the other hand, it can also promote the full communication between domestic research and development personnel and international companies with advanced technology level, help the technology upgrade, and thus help domestic capacitor carbon to enter the international market.

Electrochemical capacitors are widely used in power monitoring and communication terminals, power grid frequency modulation and large-scale energy storage for their ultra-fast charge and discharge capabilities, long cycle life, wide operating temperature range, high safety and reliability, and low maintenance costs. Market prospects. However, the key active material of electrochemical capacitors in China, capacitor carbon, has long relied on imports from Japan and South Korea.

In recent years, China's capacitor carbon production technology has made important breakthroughs. Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has opened up the technological innovation chain of capacitive carbon materials-materials-devices-applications, successfully realized the transfer and transformation of achievements, started the construction of 500 tons of capacitive carbon industrialization project, and has now entered the stage of mass production. In the process of capacitor carbon research, researchers found that its preparation process route is long, the influence factors are various, the structure-activity relationship is complex, and the guidance of standard documents is lacking.

Based on this, the technical team from 2019 to the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) to develop the capacitor carbon blank detailed specification international standards and supercapacitor electrode blank detailed specification standard proposal, aimed at through a series of high-quality international standards "combination fist" to guide the healthy and rapid development of the industry.
