conference background]

As we all know, the electrode material used in sodium ion batteries is mainly sodium salt. Compared with lithium salt, sodium ion batteries are more abundant in reserves, cheaper in price, rich in upstream resources, low in cost in midstream materials, and interlinked with lithium ion batteries. Under the background of high price of lithium carbonate, coupled with the safety and environmental protection of sodium ion batteries, the cost advantage of sodium ion batteries is further highlighted, and the permeability is expected to accelerate. Sodium ion batteries will become an effective supplement to lithium batteries.

In recent years, with the energy density of sodium ion batteries approaching the level of lithium iron phosphate batteries, (the energy density of sodium batteries is 100Wh/kg to 160Wh/kg, and the energy density of lithium iron phosphate batteries in lithium batteries is 120Wh/kg to 200Wh/kg), it has strong competitive advantages such as low cost and low temperature resistance in the fields of low-speed electric vehicles and energy storage. Market demand continued to boom, further stimulating the sodium ion battery industry chain enterprises to speed up the production process.

In 2023, the trend of sodium power industrialization is clear, traditional lithium-ion manufacturers have been off, multi-party cooperation greatly promoted the process of sodium ion battery industrialization. The end of lithium battery head enterprises and the application of two-wheel and four-wheel vehicles have accelerated the market consensus on the industrialization of sodium battery. The production capacity of key materials such as positive electrode, negative electrode and electrolyte of sodium ion battery has also been put into production all over the country, and the production capacity has been released one after another. Organic electrolyte sodium ion battery, solid-state sodium ion battery, solid-state sodium battery without negative electrode, aqueous sodium ion battery, sodium sulfur battery and sodium ion capacitor have rapidly become important research directions in academia and industry, after the formation of lithium ion batteries, another electrochemical energy storage technology with great application potential has been formed. The design and manufacture of cylindrical, aluminum shell and soft-packed batteries are developing simultaneously. Various applications such as electric transportation, large-scale energy storage, electric tools, consumer electronics, communication base stations and data centers are developing day by day. It is estimated that the market size of sodium ion batteries will be 39.8 billion yuan in 2025.

With the continuous release of sodium ion battery production capacity, the material system will be the focus of future development. Various positive and negative electrode materials and auxiliary materials, structure-activity relationship, failure mechanism and safety boundary have been widely studied. The positive electrode materials are mainly layered oxides in the short term. In the future, the application of polyanions in energy storage scenarios will accelerate the research and development and industrialization of carbon-based negative electrode materials for sodium ion batteries among the current various negative electrode technical routes, hard carbon materials have taken the lead in industrialization by virtue of their stable structure and strong sodium storage properties.
